CCNA Certification Requirement

  • To receive the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification, you need to pass:

  • The CCNA exam OR

  • Both ICND1 (Part 1) and ICND2 (Part 2) exams

New Certification System (As of March 2013)

  • If you already hold the CCENT certification (ICND1 exam), you only need to pass the ICND2 exam

  • The CCNA exam contains 50 questions and you have 90 minutes to complete them.

  • If you are not English-speaking, then Cisco will also be able to offer you 30 extra minutes, but you have to check the requirements first.

You need 825 out of 1000 points to get by.

  1. How do I get CCNA certification?

There are two methods of achieving the CCNA certification:

  • Pass ICND1 (100-101) and ICND2 (200-101) exams.

  • Pass CCNA 200-120 exam on the first attempt.

  1. Does CCNA certification ever expire?

Yes, it is for three years. In order to recertify, you must pass ICND2, the revised CCNA exam, a CCNA concentration exam (Wireless, Security, Voice), CCDA, or any professional-level Cisco exam.

  1. Once I have passed ICND1, how long do I have to sit ICND2?

You can attempt ICND2 within three years if you have cleared ICND1 successfully to be certified as CCNA.

  1. Will I also be CCENT certified if I pass the CCNA exam?

No. CCENT is just for those not yet ready to sit for the CCNA exam.

  1. What are the simulator questions (sims) on the CCNA exam?

EIGRP and Access Control Lists are frequent sims. But Cisco has more sims, so it's better to prepare all the topics.

  1. How many points do I earn for a simulator question?

Cisco does not provide this, but you typically get 80-100 points for each sim completed accurately. Incomplete sims get fewer points, so practice carefully.

  1. Can you go back and view answers on the test?

No. When you click on "Next," you cannot revert to previous questions.

  1. What is the secret to clearing the CCNA exam?

Subnetting is the most important one, so you should master that. The other subjects are also necessary, do not leave out any.

  1. What would you suggest I read?

There are many options, but books, online tutorials, and past sample tests taken by past candidates are most suggested.
